This was a big travel year for us.  We left in January and went to Sierra Vista, AZ for the Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering, the first week of February.  We traveled slowly North through Arizona and eastern Utah, visiting Canyonlands and Arches National Parks.  We were headed for Dinosaur NP in Wyoming when or motor home transmission went out in Vernal, UT.  Fortunately, it was still under warranty by GM, but we had to be towed 250 miles, through the mountains to Glenwood Springs, CO, to get to a GM dealer who would do the service work.  We sat in the GM dealer's parking lot for 2 weeks waiting for the new transmission to arrive and be installed.  From there we continued North through Wyoming, South and North Dakota, then to Minnesota for a visit with our old friends, the Lynn's.  From there we drove through upper Michigan to Ontario and Quebec, then back into the US to Vermont, New Hampshire and to Maine, where we paid a visit to our old, old friends, Frank and Mary Ann Harding, who we hadn't seen since 1963, when we both left US Naval Station, Argentia, Newfoundland.
We crossed into New Brunswick, and visited Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, before catching the ferry to Argentia, NFLD.  The old navy base is totally gone now with very little sign of where we spent 2 years from 1961-63.  We toured Newfoundland, took a ferry to Labrador and another to Goose Bay.  From there we drove across Labrador and down through Quebec, on the dustiest roads we'd ever seen, and back to Maine in the USA.  We went through New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, where we visited with Maj. James D. (Danny) Roland, our nephew, his wife, Paula, and their beautiful girls, Lauren and Sarah.  We met our friends, the Caldwells, in Virginia at Shenandoah NP, and camped with them there and in the Smokey Mountains on the way home.
We made a side trip to Walls, MS, near Memphis to pay our respects to the family of Elizabeth Stokes, Sue's best friend in high school, who died while we were gone.  We made another side trip to Florence, MS to visit our daughter, Nita, son-in-law, Bob Best, and grandchildren, Nathan and Jenna.  We got home in early November and our "On the Road" friends, Jim and Karen Church arrived the next day and stayed in their motor home in our yard until the day before Thanksgiving.  Bob, Nita and the kids arrived that afternoon and stayed for Thanksgiving.  We thought we were home for the rest of the year, but Nita invited us to join their family for a week long cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel, Mexico and the Cayman Islands.  We are home for a couple of weeks before going to Nita's for Christmas.  We plan to stay home for, at least, 3-4 months before we go, again.
We hope you all have had a great year, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
